In the second clash of the District 19-1A softball leaders, the No.18-ranked Joaquin Lady Rams couldn't put the stops on No.4-ranked Beckville Friday night, dropping a 13-1 decision at Lady Ram Field.
Despite two lopsided setbacks to the Ladycats in which Joaquin was outscored 23-2, the Lady Rams are still very much in position to grab one of the other two remaining playoff spots in 19-1A. Beckville leads the league race with a 9-0 record, while Joaquin is in second place at 7-2.
There are three games remaining in the regular season for JHS. The Lady Rams will travel to Cushing Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest with the Galkats, then visit Overton on Friday and host Waskom on April 20 in the final regular season matchup.
In the setback to Beckville, Whitney Vaughn was the losing pitcher. She allowed 16 hits and a walk.
Joaquin recorded four hits in the contest. Katelyn Cockrell went 1-for-3, while driving in the Lady Rams' only run. Meagan Cockrell and Jordan Welch each went 1-for-3, while Peyton Rutherford had a 1-for-4 effort.
