BECKVILLE -- Eleven Shelby County relay teams and 32 individual competitors in single events will be heading to the Class 1A Region III Area Meet in Carthage this week after finishing in the top four positions at the District 23-1A Track & Field Meet here at R.C. Beauchamp Stadium in Beckville Thursday.

The Timpson Bears qualified the most Area positions with 10 individual events and three relays. The Lady Bears qualified two relays and 10 individuals, while the Tenaha Lady Tigers have a pair of relays and five individuals headed to Carthage this Thursday for the Area meet.

The Joaquin Lady Rams have one relay and five individuals headed to Area, followed by the Tenaha Tigers, with two relays and two individuals. The Joaquin Rams have one relay advancing to this week's competition.

Alto won the varsity boys division with 186 points, followed by Overton with 125 points. Timpson posted a third-place finish with 122 points, Carlisle scored 72.5 points for fourth and Tenaha was fifth with 42 points. Joaquin scored 16 points for seventh place.

In the varsity girls division, Beckville took top honors with 100 points, followed by Alto with 99 points and Timpson with 92 points. Tenaha and Cushing tied for fourth place with 76 points, Overton was sixth with 65 points and Overton was seventh with 56 points.

Varsity Boys - Relays
The Timpson Bears secured four first-place honors at the league meet to lead all Shelby County competitors. The Bear 400- and 1600-meter relay teams both placed second, while the 800-meter relay team took third place. The Tenaha Tiger 800-meter relay team placed second.

In the 400-meter relay, Timpson's Rody Paige, Jaylin Rhodes, Kenneth Jackson and Lorenzo Young placed second to Alto, posting a time of 44.47. Tenaha's foursome of Jose Campos, Cobi Steadman, Reginald Davis and Porter Gipson placed fourth with a 44.86 and Joaquin's relay squad of Shane Taylor, JaDerrick Norris, Jeffrey Rico and Luke Murray placed fifth with a time of 45.34.

Alto claimed the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:30.19, followed by Tenaha with a 1:34.42. Members of the Tiger relay included Campos, Gipson, Steadman and Davis. Timpson's Jackson, Rhodes, Young and Denorris Blackshear placed third with a time of 1:34.85 and Joaquin placed fifth. Members of the Ram relay included Shamorin Wilson, Norris, Rico and Murray.

The Bears' 1,600-meter relay foursome of Jackson, Hooper, Young and Cameron Courtney placed second to Alto, posting a time of 3:32.56. The Joaquin relay consisted of Wilson, Rico, Murray and Wilson placed fourth with a time of 3:49.15 and the Tenaha Relay ran a 3:51.95 for sixth.

Varsity Boys - Field Events
Timpson's Young placed second in the high jump with a height of 5'10", while Tenaha's Johnson took third in the long jump with a 19'9" and Timpson's Young was sixth in the event with an 18'11.75". Timpson's Paige placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 37'5.5".

Timpson's Derick Briley placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 103'9".

Varsity Boys - Individual Running Events
Timpson's Sanchez placed fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:34, while Luna of Timpson was sixth with a 12:51. Courtney of Timpson claimed the top spot in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:56.19, while Tenaha's Flores placed fifth with a 5:21.53 and Patrez Turner of the Bears was seventh with a 5:37.14.

Courtney also won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.44. Stephen Evans of Joaquin was eighth in the event with a time of 2:39.66.

In the 100-meter high hurdles, Warren Gray of Timpson placed fourth with a 17.93 and Joaquin's Austin Bloodgood posted a 20.78 for seventh. Gary ran third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 43.35. The Bears' Denorris Blackshear was seventh with a 46.67.

The 100-meter dash saw Timpson's Rody Paige claim top honors with an 11.02. The Bears' Rhodes ran fourth with an 11.47 and Tenaha's Steadman posted a 12.6 for seventh.

Daylon Hooper of Timpson won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.61, with teammate Lance Richard running fourth with a 56.03 and Tenaha's Teraze Brock posting a time of 56.75 for seventh.

Tenaha's Victor Johnson ran second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.71, with the Bears' Rody Paige placing sixth with a 24.79 and teammate Daylon Hooper posting a 24.87 for seventh.

Varsity Girls - Relays
The Tenaha Lady Tigers posted a pair of relay teams in the top two positions, with the 400-meter relay placing first and the 800-meter relay coming in second. The Lady Ram 1,600-meter relay ran second.

The Lady Tiger foursome of Tia Thomas, Okievia Bratchett, Whitney Jackson and Courtney Edwards posted a time of 52.69 to win the 400-meter relay. Timpson placed second with a time of 54.24. Representatives from the Lady Bears included Latoya Cartwright, Tan Eaden, Shanee Adams and Jakelia Caraway. The Joaquin relay ran sixth with a time of 56.99.

Tenaha's 800-meter relay foursome of Tia Thomas, Bratchett, Jackson and Edwards ran second with a 1:53.91, while the Lady Ram relay placed seventh with a 2:08.09.

The Joaquin 1,600-meter relay posted a time of 4:31.34 to place second. The foursome consisted of Micalia Duncan, Erin Stone, Whitney Vaughn and Olivia Worsham. Timpson placed fourth with a time of 4:41.91. Making up the Lady Bear relay was LeAnn Gustin, Kirsten Kimzey, LaToya Cartwright and Shanee Adams.

Varsity Girls - Field Events
Katy Yarbrough of Timpson placed second in the discus with a throw of 89'7" and teammate Shelby Green came in second in the shot put with a distance of 29'9.5".

In the triple jump, Joaquin's Worsham placed third with a distance of 30' 9.25" and Tenaha's Bratchett was fourth with a 30' 2.5". Eaden came in third in the long jump with a distance of 15'8.5" and Caraway was sixth with a 14'1". The Lady Bears' LaToya Cartwright placed second in the high jump with a 4'8" and Jordan Welch of Joaquin placed fifth with a 4'6".

Varsity Girls - Individual Running Events
In the distance events, Tenaha's Crystal Tovar placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:32, while Yetia Zamarron of Timpson was sixth with a 15:42. Kirsten Kimzey of Timpson ran third in the 1,600-meters with a 6:27.38, while Joaquin's Whitney Vaughn ran second in the 800-meters with a 2:35.24, Timpson's Kimzey was fifth with a 2:46.71 and Lizbe Cuevas ran eighth with a 3:20.46.

In the hurdle events, the Lady Tigers' Amber M. Evans was second in the 100-meter hurdles with an 18.03, Joaquin's Worsham ran third with an 18.15 and Ashlee Ray of Tenaha was sixth with a 21.23. Worsham placed second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a 52.58, Timpson's Gustin was fourth with a 55.71, while Tenaha's Jackson ran fifth with a 55.89 and Ray was sixth with a 56.83.

Courtney Edwards of Tenaha won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.01, with Jakelia Caraway of Timpson running second with a 13.21 and Eaden of the Lady Bears coming in third with a 13.24. The Lady Bears' Caraway won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.55, while teammate LaToya Cartwright was second with a 27.83. Tia Thomas of the Lady Tigers ran third with a 28.72.

Michaila Duncan of Joaquin posted a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.45, while Bratchett of Tenaha was third with a 1:07.35.
