With the District 18-3A Tennis Tournament coming up next Tuesday (April 6) in Center, the Roughrider and Lady Rider netters continue to prepare with tournaments played in Tyler and Lufkin. The results were some impressive individual performances at the tourneys.
Tyler Varsity Tournament
The Center varsity tennis team participated in the Tyler Tournament on Friday, battling the likes of John Tyler, Whitehouse, Mabank, Nacogdoches, Henderson, Sulphur Springs, All Saints, Spring Hill, Pine Tree, Marshall, Longview and Van.
In girls' singles action, Center's Amber Noble advanced to the semifinals, while in girls' doubles, the duo of Cassie Cox and Ashton Lucas dropped an opening round match.
In boys' singles, Seth Grant of Center advanced to the quarterfinals, while Jesse Campbell moved to the second round before bowing out.
In the mixed doubles competition, Riders' Tommy Bierman and Sara Harkness advanced to the semifinals, while Dustin Windham and Erika Cordray moved to the quarterfinal action before being eliminated.
Lufkin Junior Varsity Tournament
Center Roughrider Kevin Lindsey won the boys' singles competition as the Riders participated in the Lufkin Junior Varsity Tournament last Thursday. Other teams participating included Diboll, Alto, Nacogdoches, Hallsville, Lufkin and Central Heights.
In other boys' singles results, Center's Joseph Tomaszewski placed third, while teammate Derek Hughes lost in the consolation semifinals.
Center's boys' doubles tandem of Cody Fountain and Anthony Johnson placed sixth.
In girls' singles action, Center's Emily Hearne placed second, Haley Greer came in third and Camryn Sisk lost in the quarterfinals.
Lady Riders Megan Camp and Katie Johnson came in second in the girls' doubles, while teammates Julie Wilkins and Darby Hudspeth placed third.
