GARY -- Timpson pitcher Caitlyn Smith threw a three-hitter and was backed up not only by her defense, but the offensive power of the Lady Bears as THS pounded out 11 hits en route to its first District 19-1A victory of the year, a 13-1 win over Gary here at Lady Bobcat Field Wednesday afternoon.

Smith allowed just one run, while fanning seven and walking none as she went the distance. It was the third straight day she worked in the circle for the Lady Bears. She also led the offensive charge, hitting 3-of-3 at the plate with a double and a pair of RBI for the Lady Bears (9-15, 1-4 district).

All nine batters in the Timpson lineup reached base, with eight of them recording hits. Third baseman Tori Mosby boosted the offensive assault for Timpson, finishing with a double as she went 2-for-3 at the dish. She also drove in a run, scored two more and drew a walk. First baseman Shelby Green drove in three runs as she posted a 1-for-4 effort at the plate. She also scored a run.

Also contributing to the Lady Bear offense included Brittany McSwain, with a single and two runs scored; Dustee Tipton singled, drove in a pair of runs, scored once and stole two bases; Amanda Haney and Tori Fanguy both went 1-for-3 with a run scored; Danielle Brown singled, scored two runs and stole a base; and Christin Lindgren walked and scored a run. Morgan Hudson came into the contest as a courtesy runner and scored a pair of runs.

"That's how we're capable of playing," said Timpson Head Coach Cindy Sessions. "Everything was clicking today and we got off to a great start and put everything together. It was good to see the girls have confidence at the plate at hit the ball well and run the bases like they're capable of."

Brittney Odom took the loss in the circle for Gary. In three-plus innings she allowed two earned runs (6 total) on six hits with six strikeouts and one hit batter. Chelsea Ritter work in relief, giving up one earned run (7 total) on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings. Peyton Mannor finished the game, allowing just one hit in one inning.

Odom, Cheyanne Massengale and Chelsea Ragan each recorded a hit for the Lady Bobcats (4-7, 1-3 district).

Timpson appeared early on like it was going to miss scoring opportunities as the Lady Bears left the bases loaded in the first frame without scoring a run. But they came back in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Smith singled to left and Hudson came in to run and proceeded to steal second and then moved to third and home on passed balls.

The Lady Bears added three more runs in the third to widen the scoring gap to 4-0. Tipton singled to left and stole second. Mosby drove Tipton in when she reached base on an error. She moved to third on the play. Mosby scored on Green's single down the third-base line and she plated when Smith singled to centerfield.

Brown, McSwain, Mosby and Haney each found home plate in the top of the fourth to increase the Timpson cushion to 8-0, before the Lady Bobcats managed a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Brown and McSwain then added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth and Fanguy, Hudson and Lindgren iced the game in the top of the sixth with three runs as the Lady Bears won the game by the 10-run rule.

Timpson will now enjoy an open date Tuesday before hosting Carlisle on March 26 at 6 p.m.
