Four members of the Center High School boys' powerlifting team have qualified for the Class 3A Region III Powerlifting Meet which will be held at Rusk High School. On the line will be a trip to the State meet, which would be a return trip for CHS lifter Jeremy Small.
Small will compete in the 165-pound weight class. He has personal bests of 560 pounds in the squat, 270 pounds in the bench press and 540 pounds in the dead lift. He accomplished all three at the Chapel Hill meet and has the best overall total in the region with 1,370 total pounds.
Small advanced to State in 2009, finishing fourth.
Roughrider Kevinski Pitts will be performing in the 198-pound weight class on Saturday. He has best of 580 pounds in the squat, 295 pounds in the bench press and 545 pounds in the dead lift. He tallied his best total of 1,420 pounds at the Chapel Hill Meet as well.
Justin Lovett will represent Center in the 148-pound weight class. He has personal bests of 365 pounds in the squat lift, 250 pounds in the bench press and 420 pounds in the dead lift. His best overall total was 1,035 pounds, which he lifted at the Diboll Meet.
Center's Melvin Suell lifted a best of 310 pounds in the squad, 170 pounds in the bench press and 380 pounds in the dead lift. His best total was 840 pounds at the Diboll Meet. He will represent the Roughriders in the 123-pound class.
The State Powerlifting Meet is set for March 27 in Abilene.
