The Center varsity girls’ soccer team gave third-place Palestine a run for its money on Friday night, but could capitalize on scoring opportunities as the Lady Riders dropped a 2-0 decision to Palestine at Roughrider Stadium.
Palestine took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and then added another goal, while posting the shutout against CHS.
"We are so close to pulling off the upsets, but we fall short because we don't capitalize on the good scoring opportunities when we get them," said Center Head Coach Jonathan Vick. "We missed two wide open shots in front of the goal, which would have at least tied the score.
"For us to be successful we have to do the small things and right now we aren't doing that. We just have to step up and make the plays."
Center, which stood at 7-9 on the season adn 1-5 in 35-4A, continued play Tuesday night at Jacksonville, and will then host Nacogdoches on Friday. The match is set for 6 p.m.
