Funeral services for Joaquin teacher and coach, Scott Owens, have been set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Joaquin ISD gymnasium, with Bro. Charles Williams and Bro. Randy Smith officiating. He was 48 years of age. Interment will follow at Price Cemetery in Joaquin.
Owens passed away in a one-vehicle accident on Thursday. He was born Dec. 19, 1961 in Shreveport, La. to Richard Owens and Lucille Lawson Owens. Scott had been a coach and teacher at Joaquin ISD since 2003. He had also previously coached and taught at Rockdale, Garrison and Grapeland.
Scott was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Baker, Stevie Smith, Mark Lawrence, Ryan Harper, James “Bump” Phelps, Jason Gray, Jay Bennett and Jimmy Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Baker, Trevor Baker, Kolt Adkison and Klay Adkison.
Scott is survived by his father, Richard “Red” Owens of Joaquin; brothers, Mark Owens of Joaquin, Ricky Owens & wife Renee of Tenaha; nieces, Christine Owens, Amber Owens, Buffey Vestal and Jamie Walker; nephew, Gabe Owens; great niece, Addison Coleman; and great nephew, Jon Lawson Coleman.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Lawson Owens.
