County athletic events called off

District soccer, softball matchup to be made up Wednesday

With the inclement weather arriving in Shelby County this afternoon and tonight, all athletic events in the county have been either postponed or cancelled, according to various school officials.

High School Soccer
Tonight's District 35-4A soccer matches between Center's boys and girls’ teams against Hudson have been postponed until Wednesday.

The Roughriders' junior varsity and varsity were set to take on Hudson in a key league matchup at home. The junior varsity match has been cancelled, and the varsity match has been changed to Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium.

The Center Lady Riders were set to travel to Hudson tonight. That varsity match has been moved to Wednesday and changed to a starting time of 5:30 p.m. in Hudson.

High School Softball
The Center Lady Rider varsity and junior varsity teams were set to travel to Kilgore tonight for games. Those softball contests have been cancelled and will not be made up.

Two District 19-1A softball matches involving Shelby County teams were set to be played today. They have both been moved to Wednesday. The Joaquin Lady Rams will now host Gary at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, while the Timpson Lady Bears will travel to Beckville for a varsity matchup at 4 p.m.

High School Baseball
The Shelbyville Dragons' junior varsity baseball doubleheader at Hudson has been cancelled. It will not be made up. Joaquin's baseball game at home against Beckville has also been cancelled and will not be played.

High School Basketball Playoffs
The Tenaha Special Events Center will now be busy on Wednesday night because of the bad weather. The SEC will host the boys Class 3A Region III Bi-district matchup between the Hudson Hornets and the Tyler Chapel Hill Bulldogs. The contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
