The Tenaha Tiger soccer team is continuing to make strides during its second season in existence. The Tigers captured their second straight victory for the first time in the history of the sport at THS on Monday night when the Tigers went to Longview and captured a 3-0 blanking of Spring Hill.
It was also the first-ever shut out for the Tigers, who improved their season record to 2-8 with two games left in the season.
The game was scoreless between the Tigers and the Class 3A Panthers at the half, but the Tenaha came alive in the second half and scored three unanswered goals.
The first goal was scored by senior Eddie Marroquin. The second goal was scored by Jose Campos. The third goal was slammed in by Alfredo Acopa.
On Feb. 5, the Tigers secured their initial victory of the season when they went on the road to knock off Liberty Eylau, 2-1. The win earned Tenaha small amount of revenge after the Tigers dropped a 5-3 setback to the same squad on Jan. 26 in Tenaha.
Both of the goals in the Liberty Eylau victory came in the first half. Marroquin scored the initial goal and Campos found the back of the net on a penalty kick just outside the box.
The Tigers have two games left in the regular season. They have a Feb. 26 scheduled home date against the same Spring Hill squad. THS will also attempt to reschedule last Friday night's match at Tatum which was put on hold because of snowy conditions.
The Tenaha Lady Tigers struggled Monday night when they went on the road and fell to Spring Hill, 7-0. The setback dropped the Lady Tigers to 0-10 on the year, with two matches remaining. Tenaha will host Spring Hill on Feb. 26 and have to re-schedule last Friday's match against Tatum, which was postponed because of snow.
