Marshall outlasts Whitehouse, 44-34

TENAHA -- Marshall used a strong third-quarter performance Saturday afternoon to outscore Whitehouse 15-8 to open up a 12-point lead en route to a 44-34 victory over the Lady Lions in the second game of the Tyler Chapter of Officials Girls Playoff Preview held here at the Tenaha Special Events Center.
The Lady Mavericks (14-7), representing District 13-4A, was led in scoring by a pair of juniors. Jiniki Robinson led the balanced scoring attack with 13 points, while Shakina Minniefield added 10.
Other Marshall players contributing to the win included juniors Shenerika Crawford and John Etta Rasberry with eight points apiece. Senior Rokaria Ellis chipped in three points and Veronica Mathis scored two.
District 14-4A fourth-place finisher Whitehouse (15-16) was led by Caroline Perrier, as the senior dropped in nine points. Dews added seven points, while junior Chastity Stewart added six. Taylor Burkett and Abigail Crawford scored four points apiece and Nelson and Erica Jordan chipped in two points apiece.
The contest was low scoring early as Marshall squeezed out an 8-7 lead after the opening period. Minniefield and Rasberry knocked down four points apiece in the second quarter as the Lady Mavs opened up an 18-13 lead at the break.
Marshall began to widen the gap in the third quarter as Crawford dropped in six and Minniefield added four as the Lady Mavericks outscored the Lady Lions 15-8 to take a 33-21 lead and Marshall coasted from there.
