CENTER, Tx -- The Joaquin T-Ball All-Stars ran into a hard-hitting Dayton squad in the opening round of the Dixie T-Ball South Regional State Tournament as Dayton used it's 'long ball' to scored 14 runs in the second and third innings en route to a 22-14 first-round victory over the Rams Saturday here at Center Noon Lions Park.
Joaquin will try to bounce back and hold off elimination Sunday when the Rams battle Center at 1 p.m. The Roughriders fell to Diboll White, 24-16, on Saturday. Other first-round scores on Saturday included Panola County National rolling Onalaska, 22-1, East Montgomery County American clipping Palestine, 11-10, Palestine American edging Liberty, 22-21, and East Montgomery County National taking care of Hudson National, 17-5.

Joaquin tried to hang with Dayton early on, but Dayton used three home runs, a triple and five doubles to record the opening-round win.
The Rams, which tagged six doubles of their own, finished the game with 19 hits in an outstanding effort. Six different Joaquin players had perfect games at the dish. Lead-off hitter Colton Harper went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Derik Holt hit a pair of doubles and went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Bennett Anglin doubled and finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored, Landen Whitton was 2-for-2 with a run, Kolton Whitton picked up a single and a double in two at-bats, with two runs scored and a run batted in, and Corbin Arwine went 2-for-2, picking up a double, scoring twice, and pushing in a pair of runs.
Joaquin players who also had hits included Mason Hughes, who scored and pushed in a run, Jackson Lister went 1-for-2, Maddox Hutchins was a perfect 1-for-1 with a run scored, Logan Barton went 1-for-2 with a run and Sawyer McDaniel doubled in two at-bats, while pushing four runs across the plate and scoring once. Ryan Harper also tallied two RBIs.
Palmer Simean went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and a run batted in for Dayton. Matthew Renfro went 3-for-3, while tagging a home run, a double, picking three RBIs and scoring a pair of runs. Shawn Swindell doubled and tripled while posting a 3-for-3 day with three runs scored. Nick Kopecky homered, while finishing 3-for-3 with five RBIs and scoring twice.
Dayton set the tone early on with a five-run first inning. Joaquin came back with three of its own as Holt, Hughes and Anglin each plated in the first frame.
Dayton then posted seven extra-base hits in the next two innings, scoring the maximum of seven runs in each frame to pull out to a 19-10 lead. The Rams struggled in the third, not being able to score a run, which allowed Dayton to build the lead.
The Rams did bounce back to score four runs in the fourth inning, but it wasn't quite enough as the comeback attempt fell short.
