Three Shelby County teams will be among a field of 11 that will be battling for the title of the best in the state when the Dixie Majors (12U) State Tournament begins this weekend in Center.
The Center All-Stars will be joined by teams from Joaquin and Shelbyville to face the state's best. Other teams include Hudson, Cooper, Huntington, Tri Cities, Commerce, Tyler County National, Idabel, Oklahoma and Diboll.
Action in the tourney is set to get underway Saturday morning with five games slated at Center Noon Lions Park, located on Roughrider Drive. The double-elimination tourney will run through Thursday. Idabel, Oklahoma will receive a first-round bye.
The cost of entry is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Children under the age of five are admitted free. Concessions will be available at the park and Port-A-Cools will be available to help fans and players stay cool from the summer heat.
The Shelbyville All-Stars will open play in the tournament at 10 a.m., taking on Hudson. A win by the Dragons will put them in the 6 p.m. game on Sunday against the winner of Cooper and Huntington. If Shelbyville loses, it will play at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Members of the Shelbyville All-Stars are Cale Cooper, Logan Jefferson, Riley DeWitz, Ryan Bailey, Wade Baty, Jake Wagstaff, Tyler Trimble, Tre Sims, Caleb James, Cole Jones, Dawson Kay and Trevor Wilburn.
Joaquin will face Diboll at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round. A victory will match the Rams against Idabel on Sunday at 12-noon, while a loss would give the Rams a bye on Sunday and into the 2 p.m. game on Monday.
Members of the Joaquin 12U All-Stars include Kase Yates, Brian Clark, Trey Wilkerson, Brock Lawson, Nate Belrose, Hunter Harper, Brock Hughes, Peyton Martinez, Justin Hooper, Zachary Bates, Klay Adkinson and Rudy Montiel.
Host-team Center will battle Tyler County National at 8 p.m. Saturday. If the Roughriders win they would play the winner of the Tri Cities-Commerce game on Sunday at 8 p.m. If Center loses the 'Riders would play the loser of Tri-Cities-Commerce on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Members of the Center 12U All-Stars include Jesse Burns, Austin Craig, Octavious Evans, Stefon Thompson, Devin Randle, Rex Kirkley, Hunter Wiggington, Deion Thedford, Kasen Lucas, Jason Tyler Burch, Jaterious Evans and Zack Fausett. The squad is coached by John Michael Burns.
The other games on Saturday match Cooper and Huntington at 12:30 p.m. and Tri Cities and Commerce at 3 p.m.
There will be five games on Sunday, four on Monday, three on Tuesday, two on Wednesday, before the top two squads square off in the championship round on Thursday. Scores and the schedule of the tournament will be updated throughout the week on PineyWoodsSports.com.
