Fish: Taylor captures Take a Kid Fishing tourney

HUXLEY BAY MARINA -- Laura Taylor turned in both the heaviest fish and the heaviest string on Saturday during the 32nd Annual Center Broadcasting Company/Shelby County Bass Angler Take a Kid Fishing Tournament held here at Huxley Bay Marina.

Tournament officials estimate that 600 youths between the ages of three and 15 participated in the 2010 event as this marked the first year that all rods, reels and tackles boxes were given away.

"Center Broadcasting and the Shelby County Bass Anglers would like to thank all the sponsors for their continued support of this event," said Center Broadcasting Company station manager Lori Alvis."

Taylor, who competed in the 6-10 Year Old Division, posting a weight of 1.11 pounds to take top honors both in the division and overall. She also had the overall heaviest string of 3.78 pounds.

Karley Broadway registered the smallest fish (in length) in the division, with one measuring 2.0 inches.

Keith Green took top honors in the 3-5 Year Old Division, with the biggest fish weighing 0.50 pounds. Jasmine Stutts recorded the smallest fish in the division, measuring 2 2/3 inches.

In the 11-15 Year Old Division, Blake Taylor caught a fish weighing 0.89 pounds to win the Biggest Fish Award, while Jacob Ard's fish measuring 2 1/16 inches was the smallest fish. Taylor also won the trophy for the heaviest string.

In the casting contest, John Austin Ford was the only participant claiming a bulls-eye, which is casting into the target bucket. He competed and won the Boys 3-5 Year Old Division as well.

Also recognized in that division was Jeep Bryant, whose cast came within 24 inches of the target, Noah Leon (29"), Donteis Hughes (30") and Collin Lloyd (30").

In the Girls Age 3-5 Division, Makayla Thomas took first as she cast within 28 inches from the target. Jordan Sanford and Allison Odom were both 29 inches from the target.

In the Boys Ages 6-8 Division, Daniel Taylor placed first as he casted within 11 inches of the target. Jarod Perez was second (16") and Paxton Graves and Joshua Wagstaff tied for third (26").

In the Girls Ages 6-8 Division, Zoe Horton was nine inches from the target and took top honors, while Emilee Elliott was second (18.5") and Jayla Caraway placed third (20.5").

Christian Lee won the Boys Ages 9-11 Division, casting within 14 inches of the target, while Adrien Cartwright was second (14.5") and Cedric Thomas came in third (16"). On the girls' side, Taylor Nicholas and Loren Vanarovec and Erica Lee all tied for top honors, casting within 19 inches of the target.

Megan Gibbs was close to a bulls-eye in the Girls 12-15 Year Old Division, casting within two inches of the bucket. Shyanne Raney placed second (44") and Harlie Hagler was third (48").

Justin Nutter won the Boys 12-15 Year Old Division, casting within 32 inches of the target, while D'Juanyel Weathered was second (41") and Taylor Wright placed third (51").
